New York City - 2010

New York City will always be my home period. There is no other place like it and Boston pales significantly when compared to it.

Where in the world can you get almost any kind of food at midnight? Maybe Las Vegas but come on, who needs the neon'ness of that place, not to mention the heat.

You definitely cannot hop on a train or a bus on the MBTA around the Boston area at 1am and get to your destination - the beauty of NYC is that it is a totally functioning town all the time. Love it.

Our short weekend in NYC was fun-filled and fast-paced, and I'm not just talking about the driving part.

Here are a few highlights:

- The MET
- The Tour
- The Trains
- The Stadium
- The Park
- The Assembly
- The Ferry
- The Dress

All or part will be posted via pictures here. To those who visit, enjoy.

Coming home....

What a great time we had in our whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple. (I haven't found out why it's exactly called the Big Apple (time for Wikipedia!)) The drive wasn't too awful bad, except for an ugly accident in CT (seems that happens a lot) - pretty weather coming back and I took most of the pictures with my HTC, so I'll have to upload from there in this post, later tho.

Caught in the action of walking...clearly I was bored...

Our Free Ferry Ride to Staten Island and then back to the City

So after the convention in Brooklyn, me, Atom, Mom and Shauna took the train from Shauna's house to the city to take the ferry to Staten Island. Before we did that, we took mom to One Whitehall Street, where she worked when we lived in NYC, and took her final picture in front of her buildings.

One New York Plaza, old home of Manufacturer's Hanover Trust Company, Inc. - my first real job in the city when I was a Junior at Curtis High School's Coop Program on Staten Island

The SI Ferry has totally changed. The Neon lights are super cheesy but I think they did it for all those dagnabit tourist that are EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME. Hate it. I guess old for me was nicer than all this gleaming white and silver. Sadly, 9/11 had a lot to do with it too.
The escalators are new and there are more of them than they used to be.
The paparazzi (me) took the pictures of the these great looking people getting off the escalators

Look no quarters needed!!!
Everything is glass and chrome and that annoying neon keeps popping up everywhere!

They have new "marble" seats but there isn't a lot of them - so you best hurry on up. I liked the wooden ones better

some kind of scenic tourist boat ride, I'm sure.
The Staten Island Zoo has an Fishtank they maintain on Island side terminal

Brooklyn Assembly; Sunday's Convention Program with the Flatlands Congregation

So Sunday was the second highlight of our trip; the Sunday Session of the District Convention at the Brooklyn Assembly Hall on Flatbush Avenue. We were able to connect with the friends from the Flatlands congregation and see the drama again. And the Public Talk was amazing.

After the tour at the MET - Downtown Manhattan and Yankee Stadium

So after the wonderful tour, we were all raring to go back into the MET and do more museum'g but after we had a hotdog and actually sat down for a bit, we realized that our feet needed a rest. So we headed back to the train, we were all really exhausted. But we opted to take the 4 to Yankee Stadium to see the digs. (Atom mentioned the HK store in Grand Central- we never got to go there tho so sad)

We did decide to stop downtown so Mom could take pictures in front of the work buildings that she worked at. That was a great idea because we were able to meet Barrie (he is a street vendor on B'way and we ended up having a very spiritual conversation with him, placing my personal copy of the new Jeremiah book, the September Awake! on loneliness and finding out that 2 of his 4 daughers were witnesses and his youngest was studying! It was great! He was awesome!

There are somethings that I like to do other than shopping - taking pictures. The beauty of picture taking is that it really is all up to me. Sometimes it's of things and other times it's of me and friends. Old Friends, New Friends and a sprinkling of family for good measure...
